About Cert IV in Music Industry (Sound Production)
Certificate IV in Music Industry (Sound Production) (CUA40915) is a nationally recognized qualification run through Collarts (Australian College of the Arts) (RTO No. 0109). Students undertaking this qualification will develop specialised skills for working in the studio and at live events, including lighting and event planning.
Students will learn how to setup and operate stage monitor systems, using a large range of different components and equipment, to meet the demands of potential employers, clients, etc. Knowledge of microphone selection and placement techniques will be further developed, in order to achieve the desired sound when recording audio.
Students will also learn how to mix recorded, and live sound, as well as a number of different techniques to enhance sonic quality, and achieve the desired sound of different instruments, voices, etc.
Students will also learn how to manage themselves within the industry, including how to seek employment opportunities, negotiate terms of a working contract, and how to promote themselves as freelance engineers in order to have a successful career in the music industry.
In the analogue studio, we have a 24 channel mixing console, and 24 track tape reel, as well as professional quality effects units, compressors, sound enhancers, equalisers, and other assorted outboard gear. We also have a large selection of microphones, guitars, amplifiers, keyboards, and everything else you may need to make your recording sound spectacular. In the modern world of the recording industry, analogue is making a huge comeback, because of its warmer, more organic tones. Many of the world's largest studios are going back to analogue recording for these reasons, and many bands are making the same move. Did you know that the Foo Fighters recorded their entire new album on analogue tape, instead of using digital recording software?
Our new digital suite is fitted out with an Apple iMac, ProTools, Logic Pro, and a M-Audio interface, as well as other assorted recording software. We also have an assortment of compressors, effects units, pre-amps, interfaces, control surfaces, midi controllers, and more. We also have a Roland TD-20W electric drum kit, full of some of the most amazing live and studio drum tones for any style of music, all without the hassle and time of tuning, setup, mic placement, etc.
